Skin anti-aging ingredients
The term anti-aging, also called age retardation, is a term for measures aimed at delaying the biological aging of humans, to maintain the quality of life in old age as long as possible for a long time and also to prolong life as a whole. This term is used in medicine, nutrients, dietary supplement industries, by cosmetic manufacturers and also in some cases in connection with cosmetic surgery.
Anti-aging is different from rejuvenation: While anti-aging aims to slow down aging, it should be restored through rejuvenation.
The visible external sign of aging is the aging of the skin, which begins around the age of 25 and eventually becomes visible in the form of wrinkles. Here a distinction is made between biological aging and aging due to external influences. Biologically, the rate of cell renewal slows down, the ability to store moisture decreases. In the deeper layers of the skin, more and more collagen is broken down by the enzyme collagenase with age, making the skin lose its elasticity.
The most important external factor in skin aging is exposure to UV radiation, also known as photoaging. UV radiation creates free radicals that can destroy cell components and cause cells to die. Extensive sunbathing and visits to the solarium in particular intensify this form of aging. Even "age spots" are sun damage. Nicotine consumption also leads to premature skin aging with wrinkles.
Stiftung Warentest regularly criticizes in its studies the lack or only short and low or unproven effectiveness of anti-aging products. In a falsely generalized way, Stiftung Warentest states that the active ingredients only act on the surface of the skin and do not penetrate it. However, this only applies to certain active ingredients.
So the problem with the application over the skin is primarily the molecular size. Since the upper layer is rich in lipids, lipophilic substances with low molecular weight are absorbed. High molecular weight hyaluronic acid (molecular weight 1.5 to 1.8 mDa (megadalton)) due to its molecular size cannot penetrate deeper into the skin, and therefore remains in the upper layers of the skin and is suitable for filling the skin. It also reduces irritation. In contrast, low molecular weight hyaluronic acid can penetrate deep into the dermis, which makes it more suitable for medical purposes.
An effective remedy for skin aging (before damage/wrinkles) would be antioxidants that can neutralize free radicals. Vitamin C, vitamin B3, a-lipoic acid, green tea polyphenols and vitamin E are considered here, especially tocotrienols. The cosmetics and cosmetic pharmaceutical industry offers a wide range of anti-wrinkle treatments under the terms of anti-aging or pro-aging. The term is often also used for cosmetic surgery. Unfortunately, you can't bake away any wrinkles in this world. A healthy lifestyle and favorable genes are the prerequisite for a healthy appearance. And yet they exist: ingredients that can soften the signs of the times and perhaps even prevent their development.
Peptides Peptides are endogenous protein structures that signal the cells to start the skin's natural regeneration process. They ignite the skin for collagen formation, for example. Polyphenols They are found in green tea, in grape seeds or even in anti-aging products. Polyphenols are antioxidants. Means: These oxygen compounds get the extremely harmful to the free radicals. Q10 This coenzyme also acts as a radical scavenger. It is also important to get nutrients that are necessary for skin metabolism.
Retinol Retinol is the pure form of vitamin A (more specifically vitamin A1). It is used as an effective remedy for wrinkles, sagging skin and pigmented spots - as proven by many studies. Even a low concentration increases connective tissue and inhibits enzymes that break down collagen. Cheaper side effect: It helps with acne. But: Retinol can irritate sensitive skin, making it thinner and therefore more sensitive to the sun.
Ceramides They form the skin barrier - they are applied externally, protecting the skin and making it more plump. Minerals Minerals also support the natural supply of nutrients to the skin: silicon, which strengthens the cohesion of the cells and makes the skin denser and harder. The natural moisture cannot evaporate, and there are no drying creams. Magnesium helps the skin cells to supply themselves with oxygen and it calms down. Calcium is said to help the cell renewal process, making the skin thicker and softer again. This effect is also shown by phosphorus. Folic acid is intended to protect against nuclear damage. Vitamin C Vitamin C has a triple effect on skin aging: it supports collagen formation, has an antioxidant effect and brightens pigmented spots.
Hyaluronic Acid Extremely popular in all forms of anti-aging care: Hyaluronic acid can store a lot of moisture like a sponge and acts as a natural dressing for the skin - especially for dry wrinkles.
